General Duties and Responsibilities:
- *Primary leader of programs/opportunities directed toward Jr. High to High School Youth. Develop & facilitate a consistent outreach ministry to Immanuel’s graduates. Partnering with volunteers and Senior Pastor to increase participation in Youth Ministry. *Prioritizing time as defined by Immanuel to also help develop K thru 5th grade programs. Effectively communicate these programs to the congregation.
- Provide leadership and assistance to Christian Ed Director in developing, evaluating and recommending curriculum, and obtaining materials.
- Oversee and assist in recruiting of volunteers for children’s, youth, and adult ministries such as V.B.S.
- Provide guidance and assistance to programs including: Sunday School, confirmation class, adult Sunday School, and intergenerational programs.
- *Facilitates regular youth meetings for Jr. High and High School students.
- *Plan and promote youth events such as camps, retreats, trips, mission trips, outreach, etc. working in coordination with volunteers.
- Build relationships with other youth ministry leaders in our area in order to share knowledge and resources and to reach out further.
- Integrate the youth ministry with the larger church body.
- Be a part of the church staff team attending staff meetings and encouraging and supporting the overall mission of the church.
- Work with lead pastor and other teams as appropriate to fulfill the overall vision of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
*Immanuel would identify percentage of Youth Leader’s time that would be utilized in these primary tasks.
Qualifications/Characteristics:
- Passionately in love with Jesus.
- Be a baptized Christian
- Has studied the Bible and can relate faith to everyday life.
- Ability to have fun, be serious, and maintain order in a group setting.
- Ability to relate to kids, youth, and adults and the stamina to keep up with them.
- Ability to teach. Good public speaking skills.
- Good organizational skills. Self-motivated.
- Ability to build a team, and take it in a unified direction.
- Coachable. Life-long learner.
- Ability to communicate their faith and love for Christ.
- Willing to become familiar with and follow/teach by the teachings of the Lutheran Church. (ELCA)
- Personable and outgoing with an ability to relate well to people and invite them into the ministries for which they are gifted.
- Have some creative abilities, casting the big picture vision for children and families.
- Preference may be given to a candidate with Christian ministry experience.
- College degree preferred, strong musical and drama abilities desired. Need to have computer and social media skills.
- Candidates may or may not be ordained or pursuing ordination in the ELCA.
Supervision:
- The Youth Leader shall be supervised by the Support Team, Council and Senior Pastor.
- Goals and programs for the year will be developed with the Pastor, and appropriate teams and leaders.
- Goals and programs will be shared and discussed with appropriate ministry team and reviewed by the Senior Pastor & Council before implementation.
Compensation:
Living wage with benefits commensurate with experience and education.
This position is being funded through a dedicated gift to support this specific mission for a minimum of three years. The congregation and leadership will have the opportunity to consider financially supporting the continued mission work beyond the third year.
