Hawkins United Methodist Church is seeking a part-time Director of Music

Qualifications:
● Music degree or current college student in music
● Experience or a willing heart to lead choirs in a worship setting.
● Understanding of sacred music to be used in worship.
Salary: $17,000–$20,000/yr commensurate with experience; 2 Sunday services and 2
Wednesday rehearsals off a year, additional planned absences negotiated in
advance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Weekly Sunday commitment is 10:00-11:45, Wednesday rehearsal is in the
timeframe of 5:30-8:00 depending on the time of year (lasting about 1.5 hours),
and special services include Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Easter, Christmas
Eve, and Christmas Day
● Up to 4 additional events yearly, planned outside of Sunday and Wednesday
commitments.
● Consult with families for weddings and funerals/memorials.
● Arrange for substitute director during times of absence.
● Plan and lead weekly worship services and special events.
● Select appropriate music and liturgy for each service.
● Ensure that the services remain engaging and spiritually inspiring.
● Develop and maintain relationships with members of the congregation.
● Manage the Chancel and Children’s Choirs and coordinate rehearsals.
● Collaborate with layperson to manage the music library.

Hawkins UMC is a welcoming, growing community within the charming city of Vicksburg, MS.
Entertainment, amenities, and historic attractions abound in the immediate area. There is a baby grand
piano and organ installed in the Sanctuary. Organ/Pianist position may be combined with Director of
Music position for exceptional candidate.
