Professional Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
· 3-5 years prior experience in children’s ministry.
· Commitment to continuing education.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
· Oversee all programming for children ages birth – 5th grade, including but not limited to Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, summer programming, special events, etc.
· Develop and maintain an overall vision for children’s ministry that is consistent with church vision and goals.
· Recruit, train, schedule, and lead volunteers.
· Encourage, support, connect personally with, and pray for all children’s ministry volunteers and families.
· Use child development knowledge to choose and prepare appropriate curriculum for each program and age level.
· Provide a warm, friendly, Christ-centered environment for children and families.
· Effectively manage the approved budget for children’s ministry.
· Develop and maintain a strategy for reaching and assimilating new children and families to West Hills.
· Plan and oversee special events such as VBS, Fall Festival, Easter Eggstravaganza, Christmas Programs, etc.
· Organize, set-up, and stock classrooms with necessary supplies for Sunday mornings and special events.
· Oversee and lead a core team of children’s ministry leaders. Facilitate and attend regular “Core Team” meetings.
· Communicate consistently with parents, providing resources and tools to support the spiritual development of their children.
· Work closely with Youth Pastor to ensure a smooth transition into youth ministry.
· Develop and lead “Milestone Moments” pathway for celebrating spiritual milestones in kids’ lives.
· Develop and maintain safety and security protocols for children’s ministry.
· Update and maintain “Next Gen Handbook” for all children’s ministry volunteers.
· Participate in the life and worship of the congregation at West Hills Church.
· Oversee and manage part-time Early Childhood Ministry Director.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 – $55,000.00 per year

St. John’s Episcopal Church is seeking a part time Director of Children & Family Ministries who is called to minister to children from birth through fifth grade and their families. The Director will develop our children’s ministries, recruit and guide volunteer leadership, and creatively expand our impact with parish families, St. John’s Episcopal School, and our community. This is a salaried position which will average 20-hours per week. The candidate must be a leader who is cheerful, highly relational, well organized, works well with others, and has a vision for growth.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide vision and leadership for biblically sound children’s ministry program
- Facilitate and teach Godly Play sessions for the church and school (training is available)
- Administer Sunday school programs during the school year and the children’s resource room
- Provide oversight for the nursery
- Recruit, equip, train, and inspire volunteers
- Maintain program growth through promotion, invitation, and personal conversations
- Utilize the spiritual gifts of the congregation
- Background check and educate all adults on protocol when working with children
- Assist the Parish Administrator with SafeChurch administration
- Evaluate new curriculum as needed
Faith Development/Fellowship Events/Mission Opportunities
- Direct the annual Vacation Bible School
- Organize the Christmas pageant and other special events (ex. Advent and Lenten programs)
- Orchestrate family events to foster community and spiritual growth (i.e. Seder dinner, church picnic etc.)
- Encourage, develop and coordinate mission projects
Experience/Skills
- Christian beliefs and values
- Good inter-personal skills with both children and adults
- Warm, caring and demonstrates a willingness to know and love the families at St. John’s.
- High energy, enthusiasm, and creativity
- Solid oral and written communication skills in order to work with volunteers, parents and in promoting programs to the community.
- Organizational skills (self-starter, detail-oriented, multi-tasking, and can delegate)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- A great passion for God’s children
Time Commitment: Approximately 20 hours/week, although the number of hours varies by the scheduled events and time of year.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
