Purpose:    The primary purpose of this position is to provide leadership for our worship arts ministries here at Hope.   As with other department level staff positions,  this is primarily an equipping role – equipping others for works of service in the church (Ephesians  4:11-13).


 1.  Vision for Worship Arts:    Work closely with the Lead Pastor and various team leaders to fulfill the overall vision for worship arts at Hope, enabling us to fulfill our church’s mission of making disciples to reach the world.    Investigate and discern ways for us to continually grow in worship arts at Hope.    We are a multi-generational church with varied musical inputs:   Current Contemporary (Hillsong,  Rend Collective, Elevation Worship, etc.), Classic Contemporary,  and Traditional Hymns played with full band or simple acoustic or piano styles.

 2.  Band Leadership:   Select music each week for the band(s) in conjunction with service theme and consultation with Lead Pastor and others involved.   Prepare for and conduct weekly practices.  Train and mentor all band and vocal team members.  Pray for and encourage band members in their walk with Christ.  Prepare song arrangements, chord sheets and lead sheets (f needed) for all band members. 

 3.  Media Team Leadership:   Supervise the media team including recruiting, training, and coaching of sound and video personnel.    Develop various videos and stills (volunteers can help) as needed,  as well as help us think about ways to creatively use social media and other technologies throughout the church.

 4.  Recruiting:  Be constantly looking out and praying for God to provide gifted song leaders, vocalists, and instrumentalists,  as well as  soundboard/video people and other creative communication needs.

 5.  Sunday Morning Coordination:     Provide coordination for the worship service flow on Sunday mornings , working with various participants to ensure details are covered.     This may involve troubleshooting.      This also includes Christmas Eve, Good Friday and other special services that may occur.  

 6.   Planning and Meetings:   Meet weekly with the Lead Pastor and others to debrief the previous weeks worship  and develop programming flow for several weeks/months ahead.    This includes ensuring Planning Center  is updated with details as far ahead as possible, with templates usually three to six months ahead.   Review and modify Pro5 presentation files weekly.    Manage annual budget as well as setup of sanctuary space.

7.  Worship Arts Outreaches:   Look for various ways to employ Hope people and outside groups in special outreaches using music, theatre, video and drama to the local Newburyport area.  This includes theatre, guest authors, musical pieces, art displays, and other uses of the arts to communicate the Gospel.   

8.  Young Adult Ministry:   Lead our ministry team to Young Adults (The Vine) which includes large group and small group gatherings,  events, service trips, et.   Identify 20-somethings at Hope and seek to include them in the life of the church.   This ministry, as God leads, could provide some of the leadership for a future launch of an evening service targeted towards people in their 20’s in our area.

9.   Other Pastoral Duties:    This position also includes the possibility of being ordained if so desired.   Candidate would need to work with CCCC or ABC denominations  (or other denomination) to fulfill standards.     With this ordination,  opportunities could come up for preaching, pastoral counseling, leading weddings and funerals, etc. 



*Committed Christian faith and passion to help people worship God

*Education:  minimum of a bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred in music/theology/Bible/worship arts/other

*Minimum of three years directing or significantly contributing to musical leadership at a local church

*Demonstrated gifting in leading worship, and well articulated philosophy of worship

*Candidate must be able to sing and play an accompaniment instrument (piano, guitar,  or percussion).

*Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work well with different people in a variety of settings.

*Demonstrated skills in recruiting, team building,  planning,  training volunteers,  and managing multiple details

*Competency in arranging songs for church worship.

*Creative communication gift to encourage multiple uses of the arts:  music, video, drama, visuals, etc.

*Skilled in use of technology (basics of sound systems, multi-media projection, lighting, video, etc.).  

*Excellent interpersonal skills (oral and written) and can–do, problem solving spirit.
