JOB DESCRIPTION – STUDENT MINISTRY PASTOR

 

VISION

Church of the Apostles—Houston exists to create environments where people can authentically encounter God, passionately pursue Christ and radically impact the world in the power of the Holy Spirit.

 

 

Purpose and Scope

 

We are a three-year-old evangelical Anglican church plant in the inner loop (610) of Houston, Texas. While our current student population is quite small, we are seeking a person to come to Apostles to pray, dream, design, build, and lead our student ministry.  We envision the purpose of our student ministry to be to build students up relationally with Jesus and one another, to grow authentic Christian community, and to build strong Christian leaders. This will most likely include:

 

·        Plan, lead and coordinate regular weekly student ministry meetings involving worship, teaching and fellowship

·        Plan and supervise weekly Bible Study groups for MS/HS boys and for MS/HS girls

·        Attend student’s games, matches, concerts, performances to build relationships with them, their peers and their families.

·      Build a team of motivated young adults to serve in student ministry

·       Plan, organize and lead student ministry retreats

·       Provide direct discipleship to students in the church and community and collaborate with others involved in similar discipleship relationships

·       Encourage students to take on a missional outlook

·       Mentoring students in collaboration with Children’s Ministry Pastor, and other ministry leaders so that students may excel in their gifting and calling

·       As part of the staff team of Church of the Apostles, the Student Ministry Pastor is expected to participate fully in Sunday morning and other primary church events

PARTNERING WITH PARENTS

·         Partner with and seek to support parents in all aspects of the student ministry

·         Communicate often with parents about the spiritual growth of their children, and in cases of concern, call to attention any issues or problems their children may have or encounter.

·         Competently counsel youth and their parents, especially in times of crisis,

·         Be knowledgeable of and recommend counselors and resources available in the community as needed and appropriate

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Recruit, train, disciple and supervise interns and volunteers involved in all student ministry  programs, meetings, retreats, mission trips, and other activities

·         Collaborate with the church leadership to integrate the students with the worship, discipleship, and other ministries and activities of the wider congregation and the local community

·         Attend and participate in the weekly staff meeting.

·         Prepare, submit and administer the budget for the student ministry

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Ensure that all programs adhere to the Diocesan Polices for Child Safety.

·         Help students develop healthy relationships with one another, their families, and members of the community

·         Build relationships in the wider community with the goal of being known in the wider community

·         Execute any other tasks and activities requested by the rector/sr. pastor

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

·         Strong faith and relationship with Jesus Christ

·         Genuine love and calling to ministry with young people

·         Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and related experience

·         Training in seminary or theological/Bible coursework is desirable

·         A minimum of 2 years of relational youth ministry experience

·         Great passion for bringing people to faith and helping those who know Christ to grow in Christ

·         Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

·         Willingness to work when needed including evenings and weekends

·         Spanish language can be beneficial, but not require

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

·         This is a full time salaried position

 

·         Reports to and serves as designated by the rector/sr. pastor
