Position:  Associate for Digital Storytelling and Social Media     

Richmond’s First Baptist Church, Richmond, Virginia, is looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual to work in the areas of video production and social media.  This full-time position requires an individual with experience in the creation of short storytelling video features to be used on the church’s television broadcast, website and social media platforms.  In addition, this individual will coordinate and oversee the church’s social media efforts.

First Baptist is a historic church, located in the heart of the city, and we seek to leverage our rich history as we strive to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to Richmond and beyond.  We are a unique congregation where people from diverse cultural, ethnic, economic and religious backgrounds join together to put God’s love in action. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background and understanding of Baptist church life and will be able to quickly grasp and then reflect our church’s culture and voice through video and social media.

Job Responsibilities

·         Collaborate with the Director of Communication in creating video content for use on the church website, in social media and in the television broadcast.

o   Produce high quality and engaging video highlighting and telling the story of our church.

o   Produce video ads for church events.

o   Capture spontaneous video at gatherings and events.

o   Create short video content highlighting the relevance of faith in the 21st century.

·         Lead the church’s social media efforts.

o   Build the church brand through social media.

o   Engage members and community in conversation about the church through social media.

o   Comprehensive knowledge and proficiency in executing strategy (reaching whom and why to convey what).

o   Comprehensive knowledge and proficiency in executing tactics (how and when to connect).

o   Enlist and manage a team of Social Media Ambassadors from within the church membership.

o   Use social media analytics to track and build engagement, and refocus strategy as necessary.

·         Assist in production of the weekly television broadcast.

·         Provide still photography of church life.



·         Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Communication (emphasis in video), Marketing and/or Branding background preferred

·         Two to four years’ experience in video production and editing using Avid Media Composer and/or Adobe Premier;  Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, and Audition

·         Video and photographic design skills that tell a visually compelling story

·         Able to leverage appropriate video platforms to use in telling our story

·         Proven social media skills that can translate into effectively managing the church’s presence on various platforms

·         Competent interviewer and storyteller

·         Strong writing skills

·         Can effectively communicate and relate across generational age groups

·         Strong interpersonal relationship skills. Creative and adept in developing or recognizing situations in which interpersonal communication and sharing of faith can thrive

·         Has a Christian worldview in line with the mission of our church, and a passion for developing it with our followers and those who interact with the church

·         Able to speak with the voice of Richmond’s First Baptist Church

·         Able to recruit, train and lead volunteers to assist in social media promotion

·         SEO proficiency

·         Is a natural collaborator

·         Adaptive and innovative within the changing landscape of social media and changing technology

·         Can engage creatively with people who connect or message us
